What I love about the Bay Area? The way the east bay hills sparkle at night and the laughter of friends around a table sipping sangria by the water at dusk. I love the smell of the Redwoods and cold foggy summer mornings that give way to sunshine afternoons. I love the mix of languages sung in churches on Sunday and the multitude of dancing styles on Saturday night…I’d go on, but this note would turn into a country ballad, so I’ll stop and think of Guaymas…and that ceviche…

There are so many things I can say, but the biggest one is it’s my home π
You can go on vacation and be 45 minutes from home. That is awesome.
What I love about the bay area…
EVERYTHING!
Awesome!
The beauty of this place is the #1 thing I love…and the weather (except this summer)…and the great food…and the diverse people…I could go on and on!
What’s there not to love???? besides the fact of NOT being in Az in this heat then NOTHING is better!!!
Ditto…one of the most beautiful places on earth…Tiburon
Guaymas! Yummy!
I’ve been in love with the Bay Area ever since I became a transplant here. My absolute favorite thing about it is being able to go to the tide pools and Pt. Reyes and the Marin Headlands.
Since I’m from the midwest, lots of people ask me about how I feel about the seasons (or supposed lack there of) in the Bay area. My response- which is absolutely true is that seasons exist here, they are just not about dramatic weather, its about beautiful food- strawberry season, tomato season, wine crush season… seasons of food are so much more civilized than seasons of snow and sleet and hail.
I love the beautiful weather in the Bay Area, and the abundance of flowers that bloom year round. Oh, and my really cool friends like Sally!
There are lots of things to love about the Bay Area: The amazing blankets of wildflowers in late spring on the slopes of Mount Tamalpais, the lush green of the hills in the midst of the winter rains, the relatively mild climate, the fantastic bicycling in western Marin and Sonoma counties, lying on my back in the middle of a redwood cathedral grove and looking up into the grandeur, watching the waves of a winter storm break on the cliffs of the Pacific coast.
But I’ve had some aspect of those things in the various other places I’ve lived on the far corners of the United States.
What’s made me decide that I want to put down my roots here and never move again is the people. More than anywhere else I’ve lived or visited (well, except for maybe Seattle, and that’s got its own problems), people in the Bay Area are open to new experiences and new ideas and looking at the world in different ways. The Bay Area is a culture not of settling because that’s the way it’s always been done, it’s a culture of doing the impossible, even if it’s silly, just because we needed to know if it really could be done.
Burning Man isn’t something you get in New York. San Francisco’s burlesque revival scene isn’t something you get in Atlanta. The whole GBLT and kink scene happened around here for a reason. The attitudes that encouraged those things to flourish is unique to the Bay Area, and that ability to drop the preconceptions is what I really love around here.
What I love about the Bay Area?
The weather, the food, the people, the amazing spirit of the people who live here, the landscapes, proximity to a world class city AND my cat, Angel.
I also met my husband here and that is why I am still here (one of the reasons!)
Thanks for asking Sally,
Madeline
I love that people here know how to pronounce Guaymas!
I love Muir Woods!!!!!
I love the beauty! I love the deer and turkeys and quail in my yard.
I love the coolness (after 3 weeks back east – really!)
I love that I meet amazing new and wonderful people all the time and make incredible connections — sound familiar?
I love that everyone I know is celebrating that Prop 8 was ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL by a Federal Judge!!!
I love that I have so much wonderful family here!
Diversity, and it is home.
I love the weather, the fact that the Golden Gate bridge still takes my breath away and that there are so many yummy restaurants.
I love living in the bay area because it has a little bit of every culture!
I love the diversity … of people, of cultures, of types of art and music, of natural outdoor terrain (from oceans to mountains to baylands), of activities. A friend once said to me “If you are bored here, you are just boring.”
What do I love about the bay area? Let me count the ways…the striking natural beauty, the vast array of things to do and see, the view of the Golden Gate Bridge with SF as a backdrop from the Marin Headlands, the dining options, the wine country a hop skip and a jump, the cultural diversity…I am so grateful to have grown up here and found my way back. It’s a love affair for sure.
There are so many things I love about the Bay Area.
The temperate weather, the mostly sunny days in Oakland; the lively and ever-changing food scene;the fresh and delicious produce we can buy every day;Farmer’s Markets at the Ferry Plaza, in Marin, Temescal; Art Murmur walk first Friday’s in Oakland;hiking on Mt Tam and in Redwood Park in Oakland; downtown Mill Valley;the liberal and open minded attitudes; the best pizza outside of Italy (Dopos, Pizzaiolo, Boot & Shoe Service); brew pubs; proximity to the wine country: Napa, Sonoma,Mendocino; ease of day tripping to Healdsburg, Carmel, Point Reyes, Tamales Bay; Rockridge Boutiques; Fourth Street Berkeley;Berkeley Rep;Bay Area Twitter Friends.
It’s late. I’m tired so I’m extending the contest until tomorrow (Tuesday, 8/10/10). Thanks for all the great comments! I love reading about all the different ways you love the Bay Area. Check back soon for the announcement of the winner!
