Want to be a better Mountain Biker?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Mountain Biking in Marin is a very popular sport. People come from all over the world to ride the trails of Marin County. Mountain Biking is also a great way to meet people in the Bay Area. It is a very social sport. You will often see many mountain bikers socializing at Iron Springs Pub & Brewery in Fairfax after a day of riding.

My motto this summer is to do something every week to get out of my comfort zone and I challenge my readers to do the same. I will be listing various fun events I hear about to give you some ideas. I’d love to hear what you do to get out of your comfort zone this summer.

Break Out of Comfort Zone Idea #1 – Sign Up for Mountain Bike Skill Clinic

Have you been thinking about becoming a mountain biker? Do you wish you had more technical skills?

Mountain Biking Marin is offering a few Summer Mountain Bike Skill Clinics for people of all levels. Great for locals and visitors.

The clinics are on July 12, July 14 and July 19. Visit Mountain Biking Marin‘s Website  to find out more information.

I’m looking for more break out of comfort zone ideas to share with my readers. If you know of any please leave a comment letting us know.

Thanks!

Maria Maria and Scott Capurro

maria maria $1 tacoI don’t know what it is about Mill Valley on Tuesday nights but Maria Maria has $1 Taco Tuesday. Did you hear that? You can get $1 tacos in Mill Valley on Tuesday nights?!

Last night about 20 of us met up at Maria Maria to celebrate Amy’s birthday. We had $1 tacos, chips, salsa, Sangrias and Margaritas.

You can choose between beef or chicken tacos. I did not try the Margaritas but the Sangria was delicious.

After the tacos, chips, salsa, Sangria and Margaritas we headed to the Throckmorton theatre for Tuesday Night Comedy Night. The headliner tonight was Scott Capurro. Bay Area natives probably know him from Alice radio’s morning show with Sarah and Vinnie. Because it was Amy’s birthday and she planned ahead we got to sit in the front row for comedy night. Sitting in the front row means you risk getting harassed by the comedians… we did. It was fun. The comments from Scott Capurro were not G rated so I won’t be repeating them here. :-)

Gelato in Mill Valley

Cici Gelato in Mill Valley
How did I miss this?! I did not know there was a gelato place in Mill Valley!

I LOVE gelato! Gelato is an Italian form of ice cream. It’s light and fluffy, one of the ingredients is air.

This is going to be short and sweet! Newsflash: Mill Valley has gelato!

I had dark chocolate with cookies and cream. Oh so yummy! The place is super cool too!

I can’t think of anywhere I would rather be on a Tuesday night than Mill Valley! I just got back from the Tam Valley Farmers Market. Stocked up on lots of fresh, organic, locally grown fruits and veggies and even got my dinner for tonight. The Roli Roti guy is always at the Farmers Market selling his sustainably-farmed-best-rotisserie-chicken-I’ve-ever-had-in-my-life-chicken. Dinner tonight is Roli Roti chicken, fresh salad and a fresh Sweet Baguette from La Farine Bakery. All from the Farmers Market, all produced locally.

After our yummy dinner we will head out to Tuesday Night Comedy Night right here in Mill Valley. This has got to be one of the best hidden gems in the Bay Area. Mill Valley Tuesday Night Comedy Night hosted by the fabulous Mark Pitta and Friends is always full of surprises. You pay $20 and you never know what you are going to get. You may see a bunch of new up and coming comedians or you may see Robin Williams or Dana Carvey, who often drop in unannounced.

Mill Valley is definitely the place to be on a Tuesday night!

Business Networking Event – Marin

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Great networking opportunity for local businesses! Sally Around The Bay will be there!

Spectrum LGBT Center Hosts Free Networking Event

Mixer at Integrated Design Studio in Mill Valley offers a unique meet-up opportunity for business and community members

Spectrum Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Center invites you to an evening of networking for businesses and community members at Integrated Design Studio (IDS), 219 Shoreline Drive, Mill Valley on Thursday, May 21, 6-8 PM.

Everyone is invited; there is no charge to participate. Food, wine, and a raffle will round out the festivities at IDS, which boasts a lovely outdoor garden patio perfectly suited for social events and special occasions.

“During these uncertain economic times, networking is important not just for businesses, but for the entire community,” says Paula Pilecki, Executive Director of Spectrum, the North Bay’s nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting equality and justice for LGBT people. “Spectrum has contact with a particular market niche – LGBT people and the supportive community surrounding them – that makes this kind of networking event attractive to local business.”

Marketing surveys conducted over the past few years indicate that LGBT people prefer to do business with companies and brands that demonstrate support for the gay community. A 2007 survey conducted by market research firms Harris Interactive and Witeck-Combs Communications revealed that two-thirds of LGBT adults would be very or somewhat likely to remain loyal to a brand they believed to be very friendly and supportive to the gay community – even when less friendly companies may offer lower prices or be more convenient.

The 2007 survey concludes that LGBT people “remain loyal to companies that support causes that are important to them, and are highly motivated to learn about corporate social responsibility in all its forms. They are among consumers most motivated to vote with their dollars.” (HarrisInteractive.com)

Sponsored by Bank of Marin and Integrated Design Studio, the networking mixer will showcase at least two dozen businesses representing a diverse offering of services, from insurance to real estate to landscape design and improvement.

Confirmed businesses to date include: AAA – Larkspur; Anspach Financial Group; B2B Incentivz/ Ohmy Advisors; Balance & Zumba Marin; Bank of Marin; Bay Area Community Resources, The Business Writing Company; Don Kline Financial & Insurance Services; Finch’s Flowers; The Girls in the Vineyard; IHOP – San Rafael; Indulge Caterers; Integrated Design Studio; Irwin-Wells Associates; Jen Pennington, Pacific Union; Katherine Holland, Coldwell Banker; London Productions; Marin Country Day School; Marti Guerra, Alain Pinel Realtors; Marin Local Music; Mountain Biking Marin; Mountain Play Association; PG&E PrideNetwork; Paula Helene Beard Tax Practice; Robert Wintrode, Northwestern Mutual; Shepard Design Associates; Toyota Marin/Scion Marin; Virtual Simplicity; and The Yardsquad.
