Earthquake Drill in California
Posted by: | Comments
Living in the San Francisco Bay Area I’m forced to think about earthquakes. This Thursday, October 15, 2009 California is going to be having a huge earthquake drill. The drill is called The ShakeOut Drill.
I have not participated in an earthquake drill since middle school. This is a good reminder to think about being ready for earthquakes and other emergencies.
Here is information about the Bay Area ShakeOut.
The ShakeOut website gives suggestions for being prepared such as doing a “hazard hunt” for items in your home that might fall during an earthquake, creating a personal family preparedness plan and putting together or refreshing your emergency supply kits.
Earthquakes are never fun to think about. I personally do not live in fear of an earthquake but I do believe it is important to be prepared. I’m adding getting prepared to my to do list this week.
Visit http://shakeout.org/ for more information on how to participate in the drill.
They’re Talking About Me on the Radio!

They are talking about me because of the blog post I wrote about my Big Mini Dream. Since writing that post I’ve discovered a whole new world of Mini lovers!
Thanks Miniology!
My BIG MINI Dream! (Part 1)
Posted by: | CommentsBy day I’m a blogger, social networker, restaurant reviewer, owner of Virtual Simplicity and explorer of the Bay Area, but deep inside there is a bright-eyed little girl who has always dreamed of driving a Mini Cooper. I used to see those old ones driving around and dreamt of having a pink one for myself.
Because of my dream I am writing an open letter to MiniSF (see below).
Dear MiniSF,
I have a dream! That dream is to drive a MINI all over the San Francisco Bay Area and blog about it! MiniSF, if you were to give me the car of my dreams I will blog, tweet and Facebook about my MINI adventure wherever I go. My virtual friends are ALL over the Bay Area and the internet. They are social networking queens (and kings). I will take pictures of my MINI in front of restaurants, in front of boutiques, parked near hiking trails, at the beach, in San Francisco, next to the Golden Gate Bridge, at the farm, in Napa, with a mountain bike on it, with my dog in it, everywhere!
Like I said, I have a BIG mouth so I will tell EVERYONE about my new MINI. I will tell all the restaurants I visit, the store owners and especially all my virtual friends via Twitter, Facebook and all the other places people listen to me. I will even play a fun weekly game on my blog titled Where’s MINI?. In this game, I will take photos of my MINI parked in prominent Bay Area places and ask my readers to tell me where my MINI is parked. I will also tell every newspaper in the Bay Area about my cool new MINI.
I will constantly tweet about my MINI and how much I love it! I will also talk about my MINI on Facebook and post pictures of it. Basically, I will be your social networking dream girl!
Owning a MINI would be my dream come true! Everyone that knows me KNOWS that I REALLY want a MINI. I can picture myself walking out of the next restaurant I’m at and seeing MY MINI parked in the parking lot and I will have a BIG smile on my face.
In addition to driving my MINI all over the San Francisco Bay Area I will drive it around the country to visit my many virtual friends who are cheering on my dream! I would love to tweet about my dream becoming a reality and watch all my friends re-tweet it and blog about it!
@MiniSF it’s your move now! I know MINI is all about fulfilling customer’s dreams…
The way I see it, this is Win Win for both of us!
Thank you!
Sally
Thank you!!!!

I’ve been thinking about how to approach them for a very long time and when I found them on Twitter yesterday I got so excited I couldn’t stop myself. (I have a Big mouth and then my Big Twitter following got on the Band Wagon and encouraged me!)

Buy a hat, help save someone’s home
Posted by: | CommentsToday is one of those cold and foggy San Francisco days which means I get to wear my new hat! I believe in supporting entrepreneurs. I also admire people who are creative. When I heard about the 500 Hats challenge (from @CandyTX) I had to get one for myself.

500 Hats is the genius idea of a woman who was trying to figure out how to make ends meet in the current economy. She and her husband are trying to avoid foreclosure. She came up with the idea to knit 500 hats in 30 days during the month of August and sell them for $10 each which would help her earn enough money to pay her mortgage. She didn’t quite sell 500 but she did sell enough to keep her house for another month. She has extended the project through October 1st.
Her motto is, “Buy a hat. Wear it, donate it. Save my home.”
I love my hat!

I was reading the SFist and saw their post about Hit and Run Hula in San Francisco today.
Bay Bridge Closure Labor Day Weekend
Posted by: | CommentsNews: The San Francisco Bay Bridge is going to be closed on Labor Day Weekend. Think twice before coming to the Bay Area that weekend. I plan to stay home and avoid the freeways. The bridge will be closed from Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 8pm until 5am on Tuesday, September 8, 2009.
For more information about the Bay Bridge Closure visit: http://baybridgeinfo.org
You can follow the Bay Bridge on Twitter for up to date information. I love Twitter!
The OC

I have to confess something… I’ve left the San Francisco Bay Area (but only for a week).
I’m spending the week around another bay – the Newport Bay in Orange County (also known as The OC). I’m here visiting my family. By the way, it is not cool to call Orange County “The OC” but I just can’t help myself. I think I may have turned in to one of those snotty Bay Area people I often hear Southern Californian’s referring to. Although, after living in Northern California for 15+ years I have to say being back here visiting Orange County I’m starting to appreciate OC in new ways.
The weather here is beautiful! The white sandy beaches are gorgeous. The beach boardwalk if fun. The people are friendly. When I walk Poncho, everyone I pass says hi. It’s really easy to shop here – not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing though. If I lived here I would probably be broke or in serious debt. There are shopping malls with in 5 minutes of any direction you turn. I never shop at home, it’s too much effort. Here if someone asks you if you want to go to Target you say, “which one?” If someone asks me up North if I want to go to Target I say, “no, it’s too far I don’t want to drive all the way there”. Another thing I like about The OC is that it is flat. I know my mountain biking friends would say flat is boring but I like flat when riding a bike. If I lived here I would ride my bike everywhere. Actually, it’s not all flat there is even great mountain biking here.
Oh, another thing… people have some cool hobbies here. My brother and brother-in-law both have dune buggies! I got to ride in one yesterday. It’s green and sparkly. I like anything that is sparkly.

Since I will be in The OC for the rest of the week I will be blogging about all the gems I discover here around the Newport Bay and beyond.
