Thai Food in San Anselmo

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I love Thai food and Marin County seems to have endless choices when it comes to Thai food.  Today I joined a friend for lunch at a place called Lanna Thai in San Anselmo located on the Miracle Mile.  The décor is nice and the food is good.

We started with the Salad Roll appetizer “lettuce cups filled with jicama, crispy noodles and pine-nuts all tossed in a tangy sauce”. We ordered the Sauté Eggplant which is eggplant sauteed with Thai basil in black bean sauce with Tofu. It comes with a choice of Chicken, Beef or Tofu and it cost $7.95.

We also got the Crispy Basil Chicken: Tender chicken lightly breaded and tossed with a tangy sauce and crispy Thai basil for $11.00. I was expecting it to be more chicken nugget like but it the batter was actually light, crispy and delicious! I had a Thai Iced Tea with my meal.

I LOVE Thai Iced Tea!

If you are looking for some good Thai Food in Fairfax I highly recommend Siam Lotus.  I’ve been there many times and can’t believe I have not blogged about it yet. The food is great and so is the service. We had a friend visiting from out of town so we took her to Fairfax in search of better weather. (It was foggy here in Southern Marin – surprise, surprise.) She introduced us to a new dish: Mus-sa-mun curry sauce cooked in coconut milk with peanuts, potatoes and carrots. We also ordered Pad Thai and Pad-Hed-Ruam – Sautéed chicken with shiitake mushrooms, eggplant and snow peas in a spicy garlic sauce topped with crispy basil.

I love Fairfax! It is my favorite town in Marin. Fairfax still has the original Marin feel. Fairfax is full of cool, fun and interesting people. Fairfax is also the first town in Marin to ban plastic bags. Fairfax is a town that leads to many great hiking and mountain biking trails. It’s also the place to find night life in Marin. If you want to go out after 9pm Fairfax is the place for live music and dancing.

This is quickly turning into a post on why I love Fairfax. Just go to Fairfax and see for yourself. It’s a very cool town.

If you are craving some Thai food be sure to check out Siam Lotus. Also you must try a tiny little ice cream store called Fairfax Scoop. Everybody loves Scoop. But be prepared to wait in a long line if it is hot out. The place is tiny!

I lived in Fairfax when I first moved to Marin. I still miss that place!

We had another TweetUp lunch at Thai Smile today (long story why we went to Thai Smile twice in a row but hey it’s good and cheap… $10 each).  I had the Pad See–ew Stir-fried flat-rice noodles with Chinese broccoli in garlic bean sauce. Yummy! (Thank you @WhatsCooking for the suggestion!)

Not sure what to call our group that is forming. The Twitter Ladies, The Women of Twitter, The Marin Mafia Mom’s & Co, Twitter Lunch Ladies and Occasional Man, People who Tweet & Like to Eat <– oh I like this one!

We had a new guest man today: Mike Wolpert. We met Mike thanks to FourSquare. Peggy & Hannah have been competing to be Mayor of Café Gratitude and for quite some time have been stealing the mayorship back and forth from each other and then out of nowhere last week this guy named Mike Wolpert steps in and takes over mayorship. The Marin Ladies of Twitter Who Tweet & Like to Eat while checking in at FourSquare were up in arms that their mayorship had been taken by this stranger! So we did what we do best and stalked him on Twitter.

So today the People Who Tweet & Like to Eat met at Thai Smile again but it was a semi-different crowd this time. We had @PoButler, @Fun_Master, @MomnTwins, @Sally_K, @WorkFromWithin, @DianeFischler, @WhatsCooking, @MikeWolpert and a non-Tweeting friend of Hannah & Peggy named Becky who @momntwins (Hannah) tricked in to coming (I think she is trying to convert her in to being a Twitter addict).  Becky was nice enough to take this photo of us!

The People Who Tweet & Like to Eat are planning to go to Pacific Catch in Corte Madera next Wednesday, 5/12 at 1:00pm. I heard the Pacific Catch in Corte Madera was the best location out of all the Pacific Catch’s around. If you are in the neighborhood please feel free to join us for lunch!

Lots of smiles at Thai Smile today

We had an informal mini TweetUp at Thai Smile in San Rafael today. A few weeks ago some of us started talking about Thai Smile on Twitter and decided we should have lunch there. Somehow that turned in to lunch for 11 or 12 not sure just know we were squished around a table for 8. J It’s all good! I love my Twitter friends.

This was a lunch full of Marin’s Powerful Women! I was honored to be sitting with all these fun and inspirational women! Look who came out to have lunch with us: Nancy of @ATOMsanRafel, Diane of @dianefischler, Lissa of @LissaRankin, Tara of @TaraFirmaFarms, Lisa of @LisaKiftTherapy, Peggy of @PoButler, Hannah of @momntwins, Cathy of @CurtisFinancial (who came all the way from the East Bay to join us), Marilyn of @Fun_Master, Michelle of @DrMichelleXO, if I forgot someone please shoot me now. :-(

@SFDoug heard us talking about our plans on Twitter and asked if lunch was for women only. We said of course not and invited him. So Doug was the lucky guy who won the Player badge on FourSquare for checking in with 3 or more people of the opposite sex at the same time. Doug you owe us a drink for or something. Maybe at Rick’s Wine Cellar

It was great fun! Thanks everyone for coming out! The food was delicious and affordable.

Here are some of our Thai smiles.

Where's Doug?

Thai Food Makes Me Smile

Posted by: | Comments (5)

Thai Smile is a good name for this restaurant because I smile every time I go here. The people are friendly, the food is delicious, fresh and very reasonably priced.

I went to Thai Smile in San Rafael for lunch today. I started with a Thai Iced Tea. If you have never tried Thai Iced Tea before I highly suggest adding this to your “things to try in life” list. I LOVE Thai Iced Tea.

Thai Ice Tea

We had yellow curry with chicken and veggies, stir fried eggplant with tofu and vegetarian Tom Ka soup make with coconut milk and lemon grass. I absolutely love Tom Ka soup and this one was delicious and hit the spot on this cold Bay Area day (about 40 degrees – brrrr).

On this very cold day in the Bay, Thai Smile was warm and cozy inside. It was a pleasure to be able to warm up while enjoying  a tasty meal.
