Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.
Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans. (Who said this?)
That saying has never felt so true to me as it does right now.
It has always been true but right now is the time when I eat my own words and acknowledge I can’t really make plans. I mean, I can make plans but I am VERY aware those plans may change. For those of you who have been following along, I have been the queen of planning for years. I’ve been preaching to everybody to make time to plan!
We are living through a historical moment right now.
This
COVID-19
coronavirus
pandemic
shelter in place
lock down
quarantined
wear a mask
time is a
BIG GIANT reminder
to live in the NOW.
NOW is all we have! This moment. Right here now.
For some reason this song by R.E.M. It’s The End Of The World As We Know It keeps playing in my head over and over and over. It IS the end of the world as we know it. We are not going to back to normal just like we are not making America great AGAIN (because, for a lot of people, it was never great). How about we focus on a new NOW and a BETTER America?
Usually this is the time of year when I am looking forward to a vacation or traveling somewhere and working remotely. Also, this is the time of year at work when I start planning for the next school year. I plan our program budget and schedule, plan what supplies to order. So much planning happens around my work during this time.
Reality is the future has ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be a BIG GIANT question. While I work on budgets for scenario A, B, C, and the unknown I am reminded the time is NOW. Each moment matters.
How will you spend each 525,600 minutes you will be getting this year? Let’s start with focusing on this one moment happening right now.
I will end this post with a song a special teacher recently shared with me.
